University of Petra held a virtual meeting with the CEDAR National Centre for Artificial Intelligence at University College Dublin (UCD), Ireland, as part of their academic and research collaboration. The meeting discussed steps toward establishing a Center of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence at the University of Petra.
This meeting was the culmination of a Memorandum of Understanding signed between the University of Petra and University College Dublin, aiming to strengthen partnerships in technology, artificial intelligence, and scientific research.
The meeting included participation from several university officials, such as Dr. Kenza Mansour, Assistant to the President for Agreements and International Cooperation; Prof. Faisal Abu-Rub, Dean of Scientific Research; Prof. Wael Hadi, Dean of the Faculty of Information Technology; Dr. Ali Al-Maqousi, Director of the External Funding Office; Dr. Abdulkarim Al-Banna, Director of the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship; and Ms. Rawan Al-Tawil from the Public Relations Office.
From University College Dublin, the meeting was attended by Prof. Eleni Mangina, Vice President for International Affairs; Prof. Brian MacNamee, Director of the SFI Insight Research Center for Data Analytics; and Dr. Ricardo Simon Carbajo, Director of Innovation and Development.
The meeting focused on exploring the potential to establish a cutting-edge AI center at the University of Petra, aimed at offering innovative solutions in data science and artificial intelligence. Participants discussed preliminary plans for the center, including defining its goals, identifying key research areas, and developing strategic partnerships to enhance international cooperation.
Dr. Kenza Mansour emphasized that the center aligns with the university's strategy to support global research initiatives and deliver high-quality digital education. She highlighted that the center would strengthen the university's capacity to offer advanced programs and projects, attract top talents, and provide innovative technological solutions that contribute to sustainable development.
Prof. Brian MacNamee, Director of the SFI Insight Research Center, underscored the importance of this partnership, noting that the exchange of expertise between the two institutions would pave the way for new academic and practical collaborations in artificial intelligence and data science.
The meeting concluded with an agreement to establish a timeline for implementing the necessary steps to create the center. Participants also emphasized the importance of regular meetings to assess progress and ensure the achievement of shared objectives.
