Dr. Marwan Al-Muwalla, President of the University of Petra, pointed out that the number of women holding academic and administrative positions at the University of Petra (UOP) is two hundred and fifty-eight, among them one hundred and seven women in the academic body, and one hundred and fifty-one women in the administrative body. These include three women who occupy the position of Dean, in addition to a doctor in the position of President Assistant for International Cooperation.
During his patronage of a workshop entitled: "Academic Women Empowerment: Capacity, Equality and Sustainability in the Universities of the Mediterranean Region, towards Achieving the 2030 Agenda", organized by the University's International Cooperation Office, Al-Muwalla's remarks were made to introduce the European project "Erasmus" in order to empower women in the academic field.
Al-Muwalla indicated that women's empowerment in higher education institutions is gaining more attention in the world, thanks to the pioneering role of academic women in achieving social progress and economic growth. He said: "As the university has provided job opportunities for the female category at the academic and administrative levels, empowering women at UOP has become a continuous process since its establishment".
Dr. Ali Al-Maqousi, Director of the International Cooperation Office, emphasized that the office seeks to secure job opportunities and connect with national and international institutions in scientific research. Beside that, it seeks to enhance the performance of higher education institutions, through companies that bring together researchers at the university with their counterparts in local and international academic institutions.
A number of faculty members representing women working in academic institutions, and institutions that support women's professional empowerment, participated in the workshop to become in leadership positions at the institutions in which they work.
