The University of Petra (UOP) aims to allow the students’ council to activate scientific activities and deliver the students’ views and problems to the concerned UOP executives. To strengthen the culture of democracy and election, the DSA’s Students Services Department holds the elections of students’ councils as well as students’ committees every year in March. Every student shall have the right to nominate himself/herself for the elections of students’ council, provided that he/she meets the conditions detailed below:
That he/she is a student in the faculty he/she desires to nominate himself/herself for.
That his/her grade point average is not lower than (2.00).
That he/she has spent at least two semesters at UOP (30 credit hours).
That no disciplinary action has been taken against him/her.
That he/she has one Academic Year or more left at UOP.
The candidates are entitled to conduct elections’ advertising campaigns at their faculties and inside the UOP campus as well as hanging their own electoral signs.
As a result of the elections, six councils (one for each faculty) are formed and held responsible for:
Activating scientific activities among faculty students and deliver the students’ views and problems to the concerned executives at Faculty or UOP.
Cultivating and enhancing students’ talents and hobbies.
Student Associations are the focal point between students and the university.
