Prof. Rami Abdel-Rahem, President of the University of Petra, sponsored the launch of the event "Let's Walk for Better Health", which was organized by the Anti-Smoking Committee at the University. He hopes this event would have a significant impact on increasing the number of ex-smokers.
Abdel-Rahem said, "It is unfortunate that smokers suffer from bronchitis and are prone to various types of cancer. However, it is good news that quitting smoking leads the lung and cilia to self-heal directly. Hence, the percentage of carbon dioxide in the blood decreases, and blood flow increases to the organs, which enables a person to breathe deeper and longer."
Abdel-Rahem praised the efforts of the Anti-Smoking Committee at the university and its chairwoman, Dr. Zainab Al-Kilani, in promoting the university's mission to provide a healthy environment for all university staff and to serve the local community.
