University of Petra (UOP) has continued its upward trajectory in global university rankings, achieving a notable rise in the 2025 SCImago Institutions Rankings (SIR) across multiple categories.
Globally, UOP improved its overall position, moving from 6,028 in 2024 to 5,912 in 2025, among thousands of ranked universities worldwide.
In the Innovation category, the university made a remarkable jump from 5,804 in 2024 to 4,903 in 2025, reflecting its success in translating scientific research into practical, value-driven applications. This advancement underscores UOP's commitment to delivering tangible impact across economic and social sectors by fostering a robust ecosystem for research and innovation.
"This achievement reflects the university's strategic approach to promoting innovation, scientific research, and entrepreneurship through supportive infrastructure and targeted initiatives," said UOP President Prof. Rami Abdel-Rahem.
He added, "Our progress is the result of a deep-rooted commitment to cultivating a culture of innovation and empowering researchers and students to develop creative solutions that serve both the community and national economy."
UOP has registered 10 published and approved patents, among the highest for private universities in Jordan, bolstering its status as a research-driven institution with measurable impact.
In partnership with the industrial sector, the university has worked to commercialize intellectual property arising from these patents, leading to the development of market-ready products that support sustainable development goals.
As part of its broader efforts to foster innovation, UOP recently held its 3rd Innovation, Creativity, and Scientific Research Conference on May 29, 2025, featuring researchers and experts from Jordan and abroad. The conference focused on global innovation trends and showcased pioneering student and faculty projects in technology and research.
The SCImago Rankings evaluate institutions based on three core metrics: research performance, innovation output, and societal impact, making it a widely respected benchmarking tool in global academia.
