Introduction:

A reader of this report and its presentation of the achievements accomplished by the department in the areas of agriculture, transportation, cleaning, and general services can clearly see the level of attention the department gives to making these services a driving force for all faculties, departments, and centers within the university.

All the aforementioned sections operate under the General Services Department, with each section’s staff carrying out the tasks assigned to them in their respective areas, based on forms received by the department from all faculties and administrative departments. These forms comply with ISO standards, and after implementation and signing by the relevant parties, they are returned to the department for review and filing in dedicated files for each section.

Below is a brief presentation of each section’s achievements:​

First: Agriculture Section

Among the most important achievements and activities carried out by this section on campus during the year are the following:

  • Renovation of the green lawn beds in front of the Presidency Building and along the university fences.

  • Planting and rehabilitating beds and lawns at the Faculty of Arts, the Faculty of Architecture and Design building, and the graduation square, in addition to renovating the beds and lawns of the medicinal plants garden.

  • Weeding of beds along the ring road.

  • Weeding of beds and mowing of lawns at the Presidency Building.

  • Transplanting olive trees from near the mosque to the new scrapyard area.

  • Planting olive trees near the Presidency Building.

  • Planting 200 geraniums, 500 Africanas, and 30 bronze trees in front of the student housing.

  • Planting 1,000 annual geraniums at the female student housing.

  • Planting 600 m² of green lawns in the housing garden.

  • Planting 25 bougainvillea in the housing garden.

  • Additionally, a variety of plants and trees were planted in the housing and nursery areas, including:

1,000 Shukriya, 30 blue jasmine, 50 Blood of the Gazelle, 50 tall garlic Telbakia.

10 Besborm, 10 red Cordyline, 4 Weeping Willow, 2 Areca, 4 cedar trees, 2 Copa, 15 small bronze trees, 100 Verbena medad, 10 yellow Coral.

5 short-stand bougainvillea, 6 pyramid-shaped boxwood, 18 pine trees, 50 red Carnion.

  • Launching the Administrative Sciences Garden project.

  • Planting cedar, barberry, lawns, yucca, bougainvillea, and geraniums at the Faculty of Arts.

  • Producing 100 garden chairs, with ongoing production of an additional 50 chairs and eight special garden tables.

  • Planting trees in the Pharmacy Garage Garden, including: 13 bronze trees, 5 boxwood, 20 yellow coral, 6 Nandina, 20 semi-circular white jasmine, 90 blue jasmine, 71 Umm Kulthum, 21 bougainvillea, 500 Khibayza, and 2 willows.​​

Second: Transportation Department

The main activities carried out by the Transportation Department during the academic year are as follows:

  1. Providing transportation services for scientific field trips for the faculties and the Deanship of Student Affairs, as well as renting buses to students for paid recreational trips for all faculties and departments of the university, which increases the department’s revenue.

  2. Supervising the procurement of spare parts needed for the maintenance and repair of buses from various sources, ensuring the best prices are obtained, continuously monitoring the oil changes for the buses, and ensuring that the oil is changed after every 5,000 km by tracking the bus odometer readings.

  3. Monitoring the daily student transportation process and ensuring that all students using the buses have paid the transportation fees by checking university ID cards, which indicate whether the student is subscribed to the transportation service.

  4. Providing transportation for graduate students.

  5. Offering assistance to employees and students in case their cars break down (within the available capabilities of the Transportation Department).

  6. Monitoring the electronic files of the buses, which reflect the general condition of each bus in terms of technical aspects and general expenses, especially fuel costs.

  7. Following up on the annual licensing and insurance of the buses and preparing them according to the requirements of the Licensing Department.

  8. Providing daily transportation for purposes such as mail delivery, purchases officer, follow-up officer, and distributing official invitation cards, financial correspondence, and others.

  9. Organizing night shift schedules to serve the female students residing in the university dormitories at night and on official holidays, and providing transportation to and from the airport and bus terminals at the beginning and end of each semester.

  10. Installing replacement surveillance cameras to reduce problems that may occur inside the buses and installing a GPS system in the buses to track their movement after official working hours.

  11. Providing buses to transport female students undergoing field training from the university to the contracted schools and back.​

Third: Cleaning Department

This department is considered a supporting department for all other departments of the Directorate, and its work continues throughout the year. Its main tasks include the following:

  • Disinfecting all buildings, restrooms, stairways, elevators, and halls.

  • Disinfecting the female students’ dormitory building.

  • Cleaning all university rooftops from debris and waste.

  • Cleaning all the university’s internal gardens and the areas behind the buildings adjacent to the street.

  • Providing general cleaning services for all university buildings and facilities on a daily basis.

  • Monitoring the cleaning of the university’s external streets using the cleaning machine.

  • Cleaning and disinfecting the waste dump area.

  • Polishing all entrance doors and cleaning the glass in all student lounges.

  • Dry cleaning the auditoriums (Amman Hall, Jerusalem Hall, and Petra Hall).

  • Cleaning the university security rooms located at all university gates.

  • Washing down all sidewalks, pathways between buildings, and emergency stairways.​

Fourth: Commercial Market

  • The accounts of the investors are regularly reviewed in coordination with the Finance Department, and several financial decisions related to them have been implemented.

  • Continuous follow-up with the Finance Department regarding expired contracts and their renewal, or onboarding of new investors.

  • Preparing a report on the commercial market within the university to rectify their situations as needed.

  • Ongoing monitoring of shops and kiosks regarding their obligations to pay the dues, where the Services Department reminds them to pay through direct contact and official correspondence.

  • Continuous reminders to comply with the university’s rules and regulations through official letters and direct communication.

  • Receiving all complaints or remarks about the shops and kiosks and addressing them as quickly as possible through violation reports, issuing circulars to all, or sending warning letters.

  • Providing the Security Department with the names of kiosk workers each semester.​

Fifth: Water and Irrigation Unit (Artesian Well and Wastewater Treatment Plant)

  • Daily monitoring of the water level in the artesian well and ensuring the flow of clean water to all university buildings and facilities.

  • Continuous monitoring of the wastewater treatment plant and pumping the treated water into designated tanks for the purpose of irrigating crops and green areas.

  • Installation of a new system for the bacteria stage and an aerator to reduce odors and turbidity in the wastewater treatment plant.​

Sixth: General Services

  • Managing the student locker rental service for students in various faculties using designated forms. An employee in the General Services Department handles this task through specific forms after the student pays the required fee for locker use, which is now set at 10 Jordanian Dinars per financial year, instead of the previously adopted fee of 5 Jordanian Dinars per semester.

  • Covering the needs of faculties, departments, and centers in terms of preparing for events, conferences, and the graduation ceremony.

  • Pest and rodent control within the university campus. Terminix has been contracted for this purpose, handling the placement of baits to eliminate rodents and inspecting and monitoring manholes to prevent insect infestations.​

Seventh: Telephone Exchange

Th​e exchange is responsible for providing telephone and fax services to faculty members, staff, as well as university guests, visitors, and residents of the female student dormitory.

Signage and Boards:

  • Renovation of green area planters in front of the Presidency Building and along the university fences.

  • Continuous follow-up on installing faculty parking signs throughout the university and placing office nameplates for all university staff.

  • Installation of 5 garden signs: 2 in the dormitory garden, 2 in the Architecture garden, and 1 in the nursery garden.

  • Installation of 1 compound road sign on Airport Road.

  • Installation of 20 mobile charging signs inside the dormitory pergolas and other pergolas.

  • Installation of foam letter signage for the Educational Pharmacy.

  • Installation of parking signs for several university employees.

  • Installation of 3 compound garden signs with posts: Media and Law garden, and Information Technology garden.

  • Installation of foam letter signage with a gold face for the Pharmaceutical Studies Theater.

  • Renewal of the wooden signs for the "Heritage from the Memories of Petra University" board.

  • Installation of 3 signs on the facades of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences.

  • Numbering of 288 chairs in Amman Hall and Jerusalem Hall.

  • Numbering of 256 chairs in Petra Theater.
