Overview
The information security plan provides students with the necessary knowledge and skills to maintain computerized processes and information from security risks. The student will learn about the various methods and mechanisms to protect against network attacks and data breaches, thus providing a secure environment and a solid infrastructure that is fully functioning all the time. Students learn ways to design a safe environment and learn methods and tools that help protect, audit, investigate and detect digital crimes and how to develop appropriate protection solutions. This major’s study plan is unique, since it is under the umbrella of information technology, which provides students with the necessary specialized courses in information security and networks, in addition to a selection of a scientific foundations in computer science, programming, computer architecture, databases and systems analysis. Each student is also required to pass a graduation project and field training.

The education objectives of the Bachelor of Science in Information Security are:

  • Professional Career: The ability to assume successful professional career in the Information Security Industry relying on the broad understanding of the fundamental concepts, methodologies and tools, and applications of Information Security in addition to computer science fundamentals, information technology and communication.
  • Lifelong Learning and Graduate Studies: Be able to adapt to new technologies and to remain at the leading edge of Information Security practice, and to able to pursue advanced education and research opportunities.
  • Leadership and Community Service: Be able to use effective communication skills, innovative thinking, and technical background to conduct themselves in a professional and ethical manner to provide services that support the community and the region.

The program must enable students to attain, by the time of graduation:

  • An ability to apply knowledge of information and network security; planning, risk management, security technologies.
  • Analyze a complex computing problem and to apply principles of computing and other relevant disciplines to identify solutions.
  • Design, implement, and evaluate a computing-based solution to meet a given set of computing requirements in the context of the program’s discipline.
  • Communicate effectively in a variety of professional contexts.
  • Recognize professional responsibilities and make informed judgments in computing practice based on legal and ethical principles.
  • Function effectively as a member or leader of a team engaged in activities appropriate to the program’s discipline.
  • Identify and analyze user needs and to take them into account in the selection, creation, integration, evaluation, and administration of computing-based systems.
