Skip Navigation Links Home : About UOP : Clean Energy
UOP has taken a number of measures to reduce dependence on fossil energy and replace it with renewable energy. The university initially changed lighting to LEDs at the university buildings and attained a decrease in consumption amounted to 30%. Also installed the photovoltaic (PV) solar system on rooftops and parking lots, which produced 1.5 MW AC (3 GWH annually) which was installed in 2016, now it has installed more PV panels raising production by extra 1.5 MW AC (3 GWH annually) at the second stage in 2019 to a total of 3 MW AC (6 GWH annually). Cost of electricity was reduced to zero.
The 1st stage of 1.5 MW AC costs 1.5 million JD (2,115,675 USD) payback in 2 years. The 2nd stage of 1.5 MW AC costs 800,000 JD (1,128,360 USD) payback in 1.5 years.
