The University of Petra (UOP) joined the World Association of Industrial and Technological Research Organisations (WAITRO) headed by Her Highness Princess Sumaya Bint Al Hassan. It is the largest global network of research and technology institutions that seeks to advance sustainable development, and was founded under the auspices of the United Nations system, and includes more than 75 countries in the world.
The Academic Exchange Committee in the University's Chemistry Department received a letter from the organization's Secretary-General and the Membership Certificate, which allows it to establish scientific, technological and innovative partnerships with regional organization member, including prestigious universities such as the British University of Bath, and the Swedish Environmental Research Institute.
This membership enables researchers at UOP to join the WAITRO platform and the global innovation platform SAIRA. It also enables them to participate in the workshops sponsored by WAITRO, and to nominate its various awards.
It is worth mentioning that the Chemistry Department had obtained an accreditation for the Bachelor of Chemistry program from the German European Accreditation Authority, ASIIN. It is the first chemistry department in Jordanian universities to obtain this accreditation, which is usually granted for specializations that apply academic and professional standards at a high level. This accreditation opens up broad prospects for the department, such as the international academic exchange between faculty members, department students and their counterparts in European universities. In addition to the university degree from UOP, it also gives students a diploma supplement according to the European system. This enhances the recognition of other countries in the program, and facilitates the graduates' admission to graduate programs in European universities since these universities tend to prefer students who graduated from internationally accredited programs.
